Professional Microdermabrasion Facial:
Exfoliate your skin and allow healthy skin to emerge to the surface. So many of our clients came to us originally because they were tired of asking questions that could not be answered by the “twenty-somethings” at their local beauty center. We specialize in the nurturing and repair of skin. There are no blow dryers here, so when you lay on that esthetician bed it will be a quiet, serene and personal experience. Ask the tough question. It’s what we are trained for. Want a second opinion? Read the many independent reviews of Poppies Spa in Auburn CA:
Frequently Asked Questions about Microdermabrasion
Q. What is Microdermabrasion?
A. Our Microdermabrasion System is a crystal-free, controlled skin resurfacing treatment that removes the uppermost layers of the skin- stratum corneum. Using diamond tipped wands to gently exfoliate the top layers of the skin and at the same time vacuum the dead skin cells away in a sterile and controlled manner. It stimulates new, fresh cells to mature faster and take their place, creating a fresh “polished” appearance of the skin. Microdermabrasion can be done by itself, as an addition to other skin treatments, or as a series of treatments.
Q. What results can you expect?
A. It is a great treatment to refresh and bring a healthy glow back to your skin. A dull complexion will have a healthier appearance and rough skin will be considerably smoother and softer. It can help with reduction of hyper-pigmentation, however, this may require additional use of a skin bleaching agent. With a series of treatments, it can help to improve some visible signs of aging by stimulating production of new cells and skin firming collagen. Microdermabrasion improves skin tone, helps with facial fine lines, wrinkles, improves acne scars, minimizes pore size and allows skin care products to penetrate deeper. The benefits of microdermabrasion can be significantly enhanced by using the YonKa Paris skin care line before and after your treatment.
Q. How long do the treatments take?
A. The procedure generally takes 30-45 minutes. A complimentary consultation is recommended prior to treatment for first time clients. If you want to schedule a Customized Facial that includes Microdermabrasion you will need 1 hour for your service.
Q. How should I take care of my skin after Microdermabrasion treatment?
Microdermabrasion affects the water level in the epidermis, so the skin may be more susceptible to dehydration immediately after the treatment. To ensure good health of the skin during a series of Microdermabrasion you should follow a customized home care regimen. Any products applied immediately after the treatment will be well absorbed, penetrating at a much greater rate. Hydrate your skin with serums and apply a moisturizer that protects (with SPF). Heal and seals the surface of the skin with an occlusive moisturizer or Aquaphor for 2 – 3 days following a treatment. Avoid direct sun exposure and any products containing alpha hydroxy acid, Benzoyl Peroxide or Retin-A for at least 2 days.
Q. Who is a good candidate for Microdermabrasion?
A. This procedure can be done on just about any type of skin and any skin color. Since every individual is unique and has some special needs, a personal consultation with one of our skin specialists is recommended. During the consultation we will evaluate your skin and create a treatment plan that will benefit you best.
Q. Is Microdermabrasion helpful in acne or oily skin?
A. Oily and acne skin usually suffers from over production of oil and dead skin that accumulates in the skin’s surface, trapping the oil underneath and causing formation of blackheads (comodones) and whiteheads (milia) which eventually lead to acne breakouts. Deep exfoliation with Microdermabrasion will unclog the follicles and balance the skin’s surface allowing the treatment products to penetrate better to control your oily and acne prone skin. However Microdermabrasion should not be performed on active acne breakouts, as it spreads bacteria and will aggravate the condition. You will need to clear your acne first using YonKa Paris products such as Juvenil and Creme 15, then you can use Microdermabrasion to maintain healthy skin and minimize pore size and acne scars.
Q. What Are The Contraindications?
A. Microdermabrasion is a safe and predictable procedure but there are a few precautions. We will not perform Microdermabrasion on individuals who are on Accutane (need to be off it at least six months, preferably a year prior to receiving Microdermabrasion). Clients could be refused service if he/she suffers from any of the following: skin cancer, uncontrolled diabetes, active herpes simplex (cold sores) dermatitis, eczema, active acne breakouts or open lesions. Patients with active Rosacea or sunburn should delay this procedure and ask their Poppies esthetician about the YonKa Paris products that reduce the appearance of redness due to these conditions.
Q. What Are The Side Effects?
A. As Microdermabrasion only affects the epidermis, the procedure is minimally invasive, has relatively few side effects and involves little discomfort. The skin may be warm and flushed at first, however, any sensitivity usually stops the moment the procedure is completed. Persistent redness, light bruising, scabbing or mild peeling can very rarely occur on more sensitive individuals. These symptoms will disappear without any long-term damage to the skin.
Q. How often should I have Microdermabrasion?
A. We recommend a series of 3 or 6 Microdermabrasion treatments, depending on skin condition and desired results. It can be done every week, every few weeks, or every two to three months, and can be coupled with just about any other type of skin treatment.
